CSEd Week 2020

This past week, December 7th through the 13th, was Computer Science Education Week. CSEd Week is designed to promote and introduce computer science education. The part of CSEd Week we participate in is an Hour of Code which challenges students to complete an hour of coding during the week. As coding and computer science weave their way into more and more career paths it is important to introduce it to students and give them an opportunity to develop a familiarity with.

This year students participated in activities during their Technology Classes and were challenged to do so at home with the Program and Parent Challenge. Since programing/coding is creating a set of instructions for a computer to follow our students were challenged to program/code their parent by creating a set of instructions for them to follow to complete an activity. We had a great response with many families participating in this activity.

Our final CSEd Week activities will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 16th. During this afternoon two of our parents that work at Google will hold a series of Livestream events for our students. They will develop an activity for the students as well as hold a Q&A about computer science, what working in this field looks, and their experiences at Google. Students submitted these questions ahead of time during their technology classes. Links to the Livestream were emailed in Dr. Cameron's Sunday email and will be posted in the Morning Announcement Google Classrooms. Here are the times:

  • K-2, 12:30pm

  • 3-4, 1:15pm

  • 5-6, 2:00pm

In addition to these times please encourage your students to access coding activities through Mrs. Moon and Mrs. Fox's Technology Class Google Classrooms throughout the afternoon. There is plenty to explore!
