CSEd Week Activities

As a follow-up to last week's Tech Tuesday post about CSEd Week I have compiled some cross-curricular coding and computer-science related activities you may wish to peruse on your own, share with your students, or send home to families. Some of these activities are already being introduced during their Technology Classes.

To help students make meaningful connections between CS and other disciplines, Code.org has a set of cross-curricular modules, projects, and lessons called Computer Science (CS) Connections. This curriculum allows K-12 students to learn computer science concepts while also learning core subjects like language arts, math, and science. Check out the curriculum here!

Art/Design

Poem Art: This new Hour of Code activity allows students to see two subjects—computer science and poetry—in a new way. In Poem Art, you can explore a key element of poetry — mood — by using code to add visuals and movement to classic poems.

Artist: With Artist students can code their drawing instrument to move around the screen and develop a unique creation all their own.

Math

Code w/ Anna and Elsa: Anna, Elsa, and friends will take students on an artistic journey which includes understanding angles and shapes.

Computer Science

Hello World: In Computer Science 101, the first program many students create outputs an iconic line of text: "Hello World!" Say hello to the world of computer science with this introductory activity that equips students with the basic coding skills and confidence to create apps.

CodeBytes: CodeBytes are easy-to-digest, 20-minute interactive lessons that provide teachers fun and easy ways to engage students who are learning at home during the Hour of Code.

Music/Movement

Dance Party: Dance Party allows students to combine music with dance moves they create through coding.
