It's a new school year! I hope the 17/18 school year has started in wonderful fashion for you, your families, and the lovely students you get to spend the next 177 days with. As you get your legs under you and settle into a rhythm I want to review a few initiatives from last year. There will certainly be new things for this year but let's get the basics down first. Because, as I'm sure we can all attest to, even the little things need reviewing and practicing from time to time if you haven't done them in a while.
(If you don't understand, Allan will happily enlighten you.)
Google Calendar
All of the WPS related Google Calendars are located in the WPS Shared Resources folder in your Google Drive. In that folder is a Google Sheet titled Calendars and Schedules. Upon opening that Google Sheet you will see the Calendars you can add to your Google Calendar. The Google Sheet also has step-by-step directions on how to add a Calendar to your Google Calendar. Those directions are here as well. You will want to make sure you have the WPS District Calendar (calendar of WPS events shared with the public, ex. Open House) and the Internal District Calendar (calendar of WPS events not shared with the public, ex. Faculty Meetings).
1. Click on the Calendar link you want to add.
2. Click on +Google Calendar in the lower right corner of the window.
3. Your Google Calendar Should open with a pop-up asking "Do you want to add this calendar?"
4. Click the "Yes, add this calendar" button. The calendar is added to your list of calendars on the left side of your Google Calendar.
Once you've added the Calendars you can toggle which ones show in your Google Calendar by clicking the Colored box to the left of each Calendar Name. When the box is white, the calendar is hidden. When the box has a color, it is showing.
If you would like to reserve your spot in the Delaney Library or the Vogel Integration Lab, this Tech Tuesday Blog might be useful.
If you want to copy an event to your own calendar from one of the District Calendars, this Tech Tuesday Blog might be useful.
Google Drive
As you've already experienced, we are going to be leveraging the power and flexibility of Google Drive throughout this school year. The first step to build on last year's introduction was the creation of the WPS Shared Resources folder. This folder, which was shared with everyone in the district, has all of the information located on the former Staff Resources Site on our school website. The folder can be found in your Google Drive in the Shared with me folder. If you cannot find it, please let me know.
If you have any questions about Google Calendar or Google Drive, please let me know, and I'll be glad to answer them.
