Gizmos - Interactive Simulations for Math and Science

How are students working with the content in your math and science lessons? That's an important question when looking at student outcomes in those subjects. While the tests we give students are often a one-dimensional assessment of their knowledge, actually learning math and science concepts is a multi-dimensional process. Students need to work out their thoughts and ideas in front of themselves to reach learning goals. When you put interactive learning opportunities in front of students they need to take ownership of their learning. Explore Learning's Gizmos are a great way to provide this opportunity to your students.

Over 400 math and science Gizmos gives everyone something to graph, measure, and compare. Even predict and prove. That's hundreds of opportunities where students don't just act like scientists and mathematicians. They are. Gizmos run on PCs, Chromebooks, and iPads and are an effective tool in whole class (on a SmartBoard or Projector), small group (students working together on a PC, Chromebook, or iPad), or 1:1 instruction (in a center or individually with each student using their own device). Gizmos incorporate the national Common Core standards as well as the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for math and science.

There will be a Gizmos workshop running after school in a few weeks. If you'd like more information about getting started with Gizmos in the interim please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you or get you connected to a colleague that has experience using Gizmos.

Make connections. Draw conclusions. Play.
