Downloading files from Google Chrome and where they go

When using Google Chrome as your web browser you may have become curious as to where files go when you download them. Sure, they appear at the bottom of the Chrome browser like this:

But are those files saved somewhere and can they be moved around? Today we'll find out.

All files downloaded from Google Chrome appear in the Downloads folder on your computer. This Downloads folder stays full unless you purposely empty it or move items from it, which can be a good fail safe if something you've downloaded is closed by accident or goes missing. To view this folder you need to open the Windows File Explorer. You can open this quickly by doing one of two things:

1. Clicking on the Folder Icon next to the Windows Icon at the bottom of your screen

2. Clicking on the Windows Icon at the bottom of your screen and clicking Computer on the right side of the Menu that appears

Using either of those options will open a window like you see below. Downloads should appear towards the top of the File locations on the Left side.

When the Downloads folder is clicked you'll be able to explore all of the files you have Downloaded unless you have already moved them or changed the way files are downloaded. If you'd like to move files around you can do so the same you would any other file. The two main ways you would normally move a file are:

1. Using Cut or Copy and Paste

- Right Click on the file and choose Cut (to totally remove the file from this location) or Copy to (copy the file, leaving a copy behind)

- Browse to the location you would like to move the file

- Right Click there and choose Paste, your file has now moved

2. Using Drag and Drop

- Hold down the Left Click Button on your Mouse

- Drag the Mouse over to the location you would like to move the file

- Hover over that location and release the Mouse, your file has now moved
