This week, December 5th through December 11th is Computer Science Education Week. The goal of CSEdWeek is to inspire students to take an interest in Computer Science. Schools all over the world participate in this week to show students that computer science is accessible to anyone. One of the major initiatives of CSEdWeek is the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code challenges every student (adults are welcome to participate as well!) to try coding/computer programming for one hour. Here in Wrentham our K-6 students will be participating in the Hour of Code this week in their computer classes. Sue and Heather will be using resources on the code.org website to facilitate our goal of introducing students to coding and computer science and inspiring them to create. While some students may struggle or grumble about this all students will now have the tools and resources to investigate coding on their own. This initiative does more than introduce coding, it teaches active exploration and thinking. Investigation, perseverance, and the need to challenge and improve on whats already been created are skills you don't find in the class everyday but are essential to future success. With the creative minds, all our students possess the sky is the limit for their potential.
CSEdWeek is held in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906). Check out the link for more information on this programming pioneer.
