***UPDATED*** Link to WPS Staff Resources Access Guide
I am a big U2 fan. My appreciation for their music didn't happen over time, it was quick love that has contiued to hold strong. Their songs resonated with me. Bono's vocals were enchanting. The sound of the Edge's guitar was like nothing I had heard before. The driving drum and bass lines solidified my attention. When I heard they were coming to Gillette this summer I got excited. I missed out on getting the floor tickets I wanted but fortunately, a friend had someone bail on the tickets they bought together and I was able to stepin. It was a great concert! Now, I'll admit that not everything about U2 has been great. Remember that time they partnered with Apple and snuck their new album at the time into everyone's iTunes account? There are a variety of strong opinions on that, with one of them being, stay out of my stuff!
That takes us to the Shared with me folder in your Google Drive. The Shared with me folder is the place where files that have been shared with you go. This avoids the iTunes/U2 privacy debacle by giving you the power to put the shared files you want in your Google Drive. Let's review how this works and some tips for understanding sharing in Google Drive.
Remember, to open your Google Drive you need to be logged into Google and on the Google home page, in your email or another Google App.
- First, click the Google apps launcher, which looks like a waffle or tic-tac-toe board.
- Second, click on the Drive icon. Your Google Drive will now be open.
On the upper left side of your Google Drive, you will have a variety of places you can go to access and store files. My Drive is the place where all of the files you create are located. Shared with me is where all the files that are shared with you are located. As a reminder, nothing in the Shared with me folder appears in My Drive unless you tell it to.
Moving a file from Shared with me into My Drive:
This is the alternative to the iTunes/U2 privacy problem. If you like to be organized you might want to move files you access regularly from the Shared with me folder into a folder in My Drive. To do that:
1. Right-click on the file or folder in Shared with me you want to move.
2. Click Add to My Drive. This will add the file or folder to your Drive.
3. After you click Add to My Drive, a box appears that allows you to move the file or folder to specific place in your Drive by clicking Organize. You can choose exactly where in your Drive you would like it located.
If you feel like you have lost of file somewhere in your Google Drive there is always the search bar at the top of the Google Drive window. You can type in a folder name, file name, file type, or the name of person that shared what you are looking for with you.
I am sharing all of this with you because we have replaced the Shared Resources Site on our website with the WPS Shared Resources folder in your Google Drive. The WPS Shared Resources folder is located in your Shared with me folder. You can always find it there in the list of files that have been shared with you. You can also search for it in the search bar at the top of the Google Drive window. You can also add the WPS Shared Resources folder to your Drive. Just follow the steps above to do any of those three things. Remember, this folder includes all of the forms and information that was located on the Shared Resources Site with the addition of a Pictorial Directory.
