Did you know WHS offers 19 clubs? From National Honors Society to the Anime Club, the school has a variety of opportunities for students to get involved. Teachers dedicate their time to the kids who are involved in these clubs, ensuring that they have an enjoyable experience. To learn more about the clubs provided, continue reading below.

Passport Club and VHSL Scholastic Bowl are both activities offered by WHS that help broaden the experiences of students. Annual trips to new destinations are provided for students by the Passport Club. This year, they plan on going to London, Paris, Florence, and Rome during our Spring Break. Information regarding the 2025 trip will be announced soon. The VHSL Scholastic Bowl is an academic based trivia that ranges from math to philosophic related questions. They meet every Wednesday in room A211. The season begins in the winter, going from late November through February. Matches involve both a toss up round, which is when two members go against each other, as well as a direct round, which is when the team collaborates to come up with the answer.

Mr. McNett sponsors both the Chess and Creative Writing Club. The Creative Writing Club is based on the Creative Writing classes that Mr. McNett teaches. The Chess Club, on the other hand, is a fairly new club based on immense student interest. Every year, members from the Creative Writing Club participate in the Writer's Eye Contest and the NaNoWriMo, while a school-wide tournament is being organized for the Chess Club. Both clubs alternate meeting in room A311 on Wednesdays.

The Tabletop Game Club is an afterschool activity for students interested in various board games as well as role playing games such as D&D. Tabletop Game Club is open for all grade levels, and they meet once a week in room A324. Anime Club is for students who are eager to participate in activities surrounding Japanese culture. They engage in many endeavors such as watching anime, playing video games and board games, and even learning how to fold origami. Last year, they were able to attend a Japanese restaurant! Anime Club is also open for all grade levels, and meets every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in room A217.

Beta Club, Key Club, and National Honor Society are all nationally recognized organizations for high achieving students. These organizations value leadership, character, service, and inclusiveness. The minimum GPA requirement for Beta Club is 3.25, while the minimum for National Honor Society is a weighted average of 3.50. Key Club meets in room A312 on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, National Honor Society meets on the second Thursday of each month, and Beta Club meets on the third Thursday of each month.

GSA, short for the Gender and Sexuality Association, is an inclusion based club for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Members of the club check in with each other, talk about shared experiences, and discuss projects they are planning for the year. It is sponsored by Ms. Chonoles and Ms. Robinson. On the first and third Wednesdays of the month, they meet in room A203, and on the second and fourth, they meet during flex in room A217. SGA is a student leadership program, of which additional information will be provided soon.

The Teen Health Club is a discussion based club in which students can talk about various health topics and careers, while also educating their peers. Ms. Johnson and Mrs. Motley sponsor the meetings, of which are on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in room A111, from 3:30 to 4:30. The club is planning to add a virtual component for students who aren’t able to attend the meetings in person. They are also planning to, at some point, participate in a school-wide initiative. Friends of the Library is for students who are interested in reading and talking about books, as well as help plan events and come up for various non-book related ideas for the club to do! Meetings are currently held in the Media Center on the first and third Mondays of each month.

Originally started in 2016, the Anti-Racism Club’s purpose is to stand against racism and make the school a more welcoming environment for everyone. The Anti-Racism Club hopes to plan and promote cultural events, put out announcements, and spread awareness throughout the school. They meet every Friday in room B214.

Other clubs the high school offers include FFA (Future Farmers of America), Interact Club, Forensics, Nintendo Games Club, and Latin Club. More information on these clubs will be available in the announcements if you’re interested. If you want to become involved at WHS, these are some excellent options.
