Meet Liberty!

Liberty Ward is a freshman in the 2023 Journalism class. She says she’s enjoying the class, as well as the high school in general because of the amount of freedom she’s given as opposed to at the middle school. Liberty enjoys making the most out of her classes, doing a lot, and skipping the icebreakers on the first day.

This year, Liberty’s goals are to have fun, be happy, and set a solid foundation for the rest of her high school years. In the future, she plans to be an aviator so she can travel. Liberty also enjoys math, and she knows aviation will involve a lot of that! She hopes to achieve some scholarships for flight school in the future.

Outside of school, Liberty is passionate about crocheting, swimming, and the clubs she has decided to join this year! She co-founded the Friends of the Library Club and plans to join GSA, Chess Club, and Key Club. As for her passion for crocheting, she runs an Etsy shop, of which the link will be below.

Liberty wasn’t born in Waynesboro, though. She was born in Harrisonburg and lived there until she was 8 years old. Waynesboro has become familiar throughout the years, as Liberty walks home every day to her dog, Gracie, and her two birds, Jingle and Bell. She also has a sister named Elaina. As part of the GiantWord staff, Liberty is passionate about writing about the Great Emu War of 1932.
