Meet Kalela!

Many students are hustling to get the most out of their highschool experience, but not

many are working as hard as Kalela Johnson. Kalela was originally born in Virginia and lived at

Quantico, a Marine Corps base in northern VA until she was around the age of 3 With her Mom

Christina, her Dad Shawn and older brother Kazmaun. She lived on the base for 3 years of her

life while her Dad was in the Marines and then soon retired after 21 years of serving. After that

she lived in Jacksonville, NC until she turned 7 and then finally she moved to Waynesboro,

Virginia. She's been a resident of Waynesboro for the past 8 years and has attended

Waynesboro public schools ever since.

Kalea Johnson is a sophomore this year and she's going to graduate with the class of

2025. She enjoys playing Basketball and running Track in her free time and is a part of many

different school clubs. When it comes to sports she plays point guard for the basketball team

and runs the 4x1, 100 meter and 200 meter dash, and then does long jump for the track team.

She's also involved in the Key Club, Anti-racism Club and Honors Council. While juggling sports

and clubs she's still able to take classes like Chemistry, Journalism, AP Euro, English and PE all

in one semester. Even after all the stress she takes on throughout the year, she still finds time

for her favorite part of the school year, football season. She thinks the football season is the

best because of how fun Friday night games are and how it brings everyone together.
