'Wolff Pack'
57-1493The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker first flew in June 1957.
It is a military air-to-air refuelling version of the C-135 Stratofreighter transport aircraft, which in turn was developed from the Boeing 367-80 prototype (know as the 'Dash 80'). The Boeing 707 airliner was also developed from the Dash 80 but the K/C-135 flew first.
The KC-135 was the first jet-powered tanker for the US Air Force and replaced the KC-97 Stratofreighter.
57-1493 'Wolff Pack' is shown here wearing the markings of the 351st Air Refueling Squadron, 100th Air Refueling Wing, USAFE, based at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk.
