The P-47 Thunderbolt first flew in May 1941 and was the heaviest single-engined US fighter of WW2.
G-THUN was originally manufactured in 1945.
After WW2 it spent many years abroad before returning to the UK in 2018 and is now operated by Ultimate Warbird Flights based at Sywell, Northamptonshire.
G-THUN wears the WW2 markings of 45-49192/F4-J 'Nellie' of the 492nd Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, USAAF. The 492nd had a distinctive red checkerboard nose and red rudder. (Note: For a short time G-THUN wore the title 'Nellie' but then it changed to 'Nellie B').
