The Buchon is a licensed-built (by Hispano), Rolls-Royce Merlin-engined version of the Messerschmitt Bf109, which first flew in March 1954.
Before it became G-AWHK, this aircraft was one of several bought at auction from the Spanish Air Force for use in the 1968 film 'Battle of Britain'. Afterwards, it was taken by Wilson 'Connie' Edwards as payment for his services during the filming. It was also used in the 2017 film 'Dunkirk'.
Few details are known about its service history but its thought that it served with Ala 7 at Tablada and El Corpero.
G-AWHK flew briefly in the Luftwaffe desert camouflage scheme as 'Black 8' of Jagdgeschwader 27 'Afrika'. It is owned and operated by the Aircraft Restoration Company based at Duxford, Cambridgeshire.
