The PBY Catalina (known as Canso in Canadian service) was a flying boat that performed maritime patrol, reconnaissance, and air-sea-rescue missions. It first flew in March 1935.
G-PBYA was originally delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1943.
After several changes of ownership, the aircraft was bought by Plane Sailing in March 2004 as G-PBYA.
G-PBYA wears the 1945 USAAF markings of OA-10A Catalina 44-33915 belonging to the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron, Eighth Air Force. It is operated by Plane Sailing based at Duxford, Cambridgeshire and can often be seen at many airshows in the UK and Europe.
