The prototype Spitfire first flew in March 1936 and became the most famous British fighter of WW2.
G-AIST was originally built by Westland in 1941 and was struck off charge in 1945 after suffering some landing accidents.
G-AIST was made airworthy again for a role in the the 1968 film ‘Battle of Britain’.
After becoming AR213, G-AIST now wears the markings of P7308/XR-D of 71 Sqn, RAF, which was one of the three 'Eagle Squadrons' (the other two were 121 Sqn and 133 Sqn). The Eagle Squadrons consisted of mainly American volunteer pilots between 1940-42.
