The prototype Spitfire first flew in March 1936 and became the most famous British fighter of WW2.
G-IRTY was originally delivered to the RAF as MJ271 in 1943. After seeing operational service in 1944, MJ271 suffered a wheels-up landing in May 1944.
In 1944, MJ721 moved to the Netherlands with 401 (City of Westmount) Sqn, Royal Canadian Air Force.
In 1945, MJ271 transfered to the Royal Netherlands Air Force as serial number H-8 and later 3W-8.
After many years of neglect, 3W-8 was restored to airworthy condition at Duxford, eventually becoming registered as G-IRTY.
In 2019, G-IRTY 'Silver Spitfire - The Longest Flight' completed an epic round the world flight landing at Goodwood in December after flying 27,000 miles.
G-IRTY is owned and operated by Boultbee Flight Academy based at Goodwood, West Sussex.
