The Martlet is a single-seat sports biplane and was based on the Avro Baby. It first flew in 1929 and only six were built.
For a time, G-AAYX was the personal aircraft of Frederick Miles (of Miles Aircraft fame) and it also took part in the Kings Cup Air Races in the 1930s
Since 1973, G-AAYX has been part of the Shuttleworth Collection based at Old Warden, Bedfordshire. It is the only surviving example and is maintained in airworthy condition.
