The Buchon is essentially a licensed-built (by Hispano), Rolls-Royce Merlin-engined version of the Messerschmitt Bf109., which first flew in March 1954.
Originally built in 1958, this Buchon and served with the Spanish Air Force 1965. It was used in the 1968 film 'Battle of Britain' and was taken (along with ten other Buchons) by Wilson 'Connie' Edwards as payment for his services during the filming. After filming the aircraft remained in storage until 2015.
Air Leasing, based at Sywell, Northamptonshire, bought the aircraft and it was shipped to the UK in 2017 where it was restored to airworthy condition in 2018 as G-AWHH.
G-AWHH wears the markings of 'White 9' of Luftwaffe III./JG 52, which was the aircraft flown by Uffz Edmund Roβmann in September 1941.
