THE LAND OF EARTH AND THE FUTURE
Standing fully detached from the subtle and explicit conflicts that rage between the other four villages, Iwagakure maintains itself as a TRUE NEUTRAL force that does not prioritize any nation over the other.
Though its individual clans were not all too noticeable during the WARRING STATES PERIOD, the nation's weight would be felt during the FIRST GREAT NINJA WAR. Though they never fully, actively participated in the fighting, it wasn't uncommon for mercenary forces or other resources from Iwagakure to appear on either side. Even in the face of Konoha and Kiri attempting to sway the nation, its ruling members maintain their focus on widespread connections.
Compared to the other nations, Iwagakure's focus on capital and TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT makes them the centrepiece of modernism and all fields that come with their priority on growth.
For shinobi, they are often the first in new puppetry crafting, tag making, and medicinal discoveries. To the wider world, Iwagakure is the first nation to have a NATIONAL TRAIN SYSTEM to hasten the transportation of people and goods. The capital even holds a TRAM SYSTEM for vertical movement. Home and building architecture in the Land of Earth is often a cut above the rest, with an emphasis on optimizing volume and appearance.
However, in the pursuit of wealth, the people of Iwagakure are often boxed into simple notions of assets, numbers, and roles; ultimately, how can one serve "THE WHOLE" as best as possible. The worth of a shinobi is often weighed in what they can provide to the greater nation, often being seen as specialized workers rather than actual ninja.
Overall, the environment of Iwagakure is QUITE ROCKY with flat ground being quite sparse, and LARGE MOUNTAINS or EARTHEN STRUCTURES being all over the place. As such, TRAVEL IS DIFFICULT and people tend to rely on the TRAIN SYSTEM for long distances.
There is AN ABUNDANCE of geological resources like COAL, FANCY JEWELS, AND MINERALS so it isn't uncommon to stumble upon a vein or formation that has yet to be mined.
Within Iwagakure itself, the city built on LAYERS UPON LAYERS of earth. While STRUCTURALLY SOUND, this layout serves to cordon off the populace BY CLASS leaving a wide range of architecture. The upper layers and richer families (including various clans) have HOMES MADE OF BEAUTIFULLY CHISELED STONE while the bottommost layers (including a few clans) feature SMALL, RAMSHACKLE, CRAMPED HOMES.
"ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR VICTORY"
That is the motto instilled in all of Iwagakure's shinobi. The learning and training is STANDARD AFFAIR, with a majority of students graduating with the rank of Genin by roughly AGES 13-14. However, as it is possible for the overwhelmingly rich to "BUY" THE TITLE OF GENIN, the number of actual shinobi that Iwagakure is less than numbers show.
Being a ninja is treated as no different than any other career within Iwagakure, with the worth of a ninja DECIDED BY HOW THEY RAISE THE NATION'S WEALTH. As such, nearly all ninja go on to join the police, military force, or SOME SORT OF FIELD where their abilities are demanded. With the RISK OF DEATH still present and the notion that they are EXPENDABLE, parents only place their children into the academy to either MAINTAIN TRADITION or to GIVE THEM THE CHANCE FOR A BETTER LIFE.
This is a tab for the history of Iwagakure your OC would be told. Some of it may be incorrect according to the servers' actual history.
ERA OF ALL-OUT CHAOS: THE WARRING STATES
Long ago, BEFORE THE FORMATION OF THE VILLAGES as they are now known, the Elemental Continent was horribly fractured by the hundreds of clans vying for dominance. Yet TUCKED AWAY FROM THE MAIN CONFLICTS between the likes of the Senju, Uchiha, and Uzumaki, a different battle was being fought in the northwestern mountain ranges. One for THE GREATEST MATERIAL WEALTH THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN.
At the center of this conflict was THE ONOKI CLAN, their natural affinity for the very earth placing them leagues above many other clans. Though they were only ever strong enough to hold their ground, they ONLY MADE ANY SORT OF PROGRESS after meeting THE RYU CLAN, a somewhat nomadic group that wandered the northwestern part of the continent. Though this agreement was TENUOUS at best, the desire to protect the land was common ground.
However, a dynamic shift would come into being after Konoha was formed. Witnessing the unification of clans that were far stronger served as THE SPARK FOR THE LITTLER GROUPS to ally themselves with the dominant. The age of the Onoki and the Ryu having to defend themselves from the world came to an end, and a new era would begin.
ERA OF HODGEPODGE REFORMATION: THE INCEPTION OF IWA
As clans flocked to Iwagakure, the ruling clans WHICH NOW EXTENDED BEYOND THE ONOKI AND THE RYU agreed that they needed a system in which order could be established, and the resources that they have spent so much time fighting for could be properly gathered. Keeping an eye on the other nations, the clans agreed to a system surrounding a singular leader; SAVE FOR THE RYU CLAN. While they did not disagree with the decision, they did not desire to be embroiled in politics, preferring to watch over the land as an outside party. After much discussion among the clans, ONOKI KATOTAKA, the then HEAD OF THE ONOKI and the one who would be voted as THE FIRST TSUCHIKAGE, agreed to such terms.
The heads would begin to HARVEST THE VAST MINERALS at their fingertips now that there was far less conflict over ownership. This led to what many call "THE JEWEL RUSH PERIOD" as a massive influx of work and capital came into existence. Interest in trade between villages and lands grew, but it was not until the appearance and insertion of THE YOIMURA CLAN into the ruling body that such values would truly prosper. They went on to join the Onoki and Ryu clans in their notoriety.
This era is marked by MASSIVE EXPANSION and the establishment of VILLAGES AND COMPOUNDS. The overall outlook on the future is quite positive.
ERA OF FRACTURE: THE GREAT NINJA WAR
TRAGEDY STRUCK.
The Uzumaki were wiped out and Kiri, Konoha, and Kumo began. With NO PERSONAL STAKES in this, the heads of Iwa chose to remain TOTALLY NEUTRAL. Though there was some grumbling, the majority opinion was that it would be best to avoid affairs that did not directly involve them; the LAST THING THEY WANTED TO DO was to make explicit enemies.
During this period, Onoki Katotaka retired and placed the younger, more collected ONOKI TAKUHOSHI in his stead. Though fairly stoic, it was per his decision that the GUREN CLAN would be protected.
While the previous era was focused on CREATION AND PRODUCTION, this era would be marked with EVOLUTION AND OPTIMIZATION. Corporations began to dig their claws deeper into the ruling body and the populace would feel those effects, for with every step taken to improve their lives, there were two steps back to make it more inconvenient. It was also common for SHINOBI TO SENT OUT AS MERCENARIES for nearly all sides of the war. Yet it was this way of life that would lead to several accidents involving the DEVASTATING POWER OF THE BAKUHATSU, creating a net loss for Iwa that prompted Takuhoshi to create THE EXPLOSION CORPS to focus the clan's abilities.
The overall outlook on the future is quite neutral, perhaps a bit dismal; truly it depends on who you ask.
ERA IN THE ROUGH: THE PRESENT MOVING FORWARD
Following the war and the villages settling down, IWA'S PROBLEMS PERSISTED. Though they would see many strides in technology, many deeply-embedded issues regarding worker safety and rights remain horribly untouched. This period of time sees EVER-INCREASING CAPITAL and A RECORD NUMBER OF SHINOBI among their ranks. However, much of that is greatly exaggerated.
Much of the money does not reach the hands of the people, sitting in the heads of IWA'S UPPER CLASS, and many of those that call themselves Genin have done so by BUYING THEIR WAY TO THE TITLE rather than going through the academy. In the past couple years, more and more of the citizenry have raised a fuss about current predicaments. The newest Tsuchikage, only elected within the past five years, YOIMURA NAKUMACHI, shows no sign of doing anything.
This era is marked by GENERAL UNREST and SLOWLY GROWING RESENTMENT in the face of EVEN GREATER TECHNOLOGICAL FEATS. The overall outlook on the future is quite unknown.
