All members' names end with getsu (月), which means "moon". This naming tradition dates as far back as their initial settlement in Kirigakure.
The Hozuki are the clan that inhabited the space that would soon become the Hidden Mist. They, quite literally, embody the idea of the Land of Water. Some say the Hozuki aren't originally from Kirigakure, rather the Kaiju ocean. Some say they come from the same roots as the Hoshigaki. Of course, they refuse to validate these theories.
There was a small scuffle between the Yuki clan and the Hozuki when the former arrived on the Island that would become Kirigakure's central. Hozuki members were occupying the waters surrounding it. However, the two clans would come to an agreement and so Kiri was established. Both were dubbed 'nobilities' but maintain a shakey relationship in spite of their shared title.
The Hozuki are responsible for the building of underwater bases, structures and foundation of the Hidden Mist.
Their bodies are always composed of water, consequentially forcing them to stay well hydrated at all times.
The clan has passed down the techniques of The Shinobi who first settled here in the form of their Hiden. Taught to children as young as possible, they maintain an inoffensive, good standing with Kirigakure, being part of the very foundation the village was built atop. The family is historically valued and still respectable in the modern day. A stranger might do a small favor for you off of namesake alone should you hail from this lineage.
The current Mizukage is Hozuki Ikagetsu. She murdered Yuki Kiyoshi, the last Mizukage, for the position. Relationships between the Yuki and Hozuki have soured all the more since.
