Cleaning the Epson printer’s print head is a crucial step to improve the printer’s functionality. It involves a few easy-to-follow steps as mentioned below:
Check the nozzle pattern to identify actual clogs. On Windows, go to the Maintenance tab and select Nozzle Check.
On Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and open Options & Supplies > Utility > Open Printer Utility and select Nozzle Check.
If you see problems during nozzle check, run the standard Head Cleaning function from the Maintenance tab; it will take about 1-2 minutes.
Now, the printer will draw ink from the cartridges or ink tank through the nozzles, pushing the dried ink out.
Run power cleaning from the Maintenance menu. It releases more ink from the system in a single pass.
If power cleaning doesn’t show a clear nozzle pattern, choose Power Ink Flushing, which will replace all the ink sitting between tubes and the ink tank.
If software cleaning isn’t enough and you have tried nozzle checks, head cleaning, power cleaning, and power ink flushing, manual cleaning may help. Follow the steps given below to run manual cleaning:
Power off your Epson printer and then disconnect it.
Open the top cover or scanner unit to make your print head carriage accessible. You’ll find it at the right or in the center on most printer models.
Take a lint-free cloth or a folded paper towel, soak it in distilled water and isopropyl alcohol, and use it to remove stubborn dried ink.
Now, lay the damp cloth under the print head and let it sit for several hours.
Reconnect the Epson printer, and run a nozzle check before doing anything else with it.
