Eating Healthy

Food Groups

  • A healthy diet should include food from all of the food groups. The five food groups are dairy, fruits, vegetables, protein, and grains. Eat a variety of foods each day. Fill half your plate with vegetables and fruits. Choose a whole grain. Add a protein. Drink a glass of milk.

Vitamins & Minerals

  • Healthy foods are good for you.

They have many vitamins and

minerals. Vitamins and minerals

help you grow and stay healthy.

Fats

  • Healthy fats should also be

part of your diet. Fats help

make your brain healthy.

Poultry and fish have fat.

Dairy, eggs, and nuts have fat

as well. These foods are also

full of nutrients.

Fiber

  • Fiber is in plant foods. It helps with

digestion. Vegetables, fruits, and

grains have fiber. Whole grains

have lots of fiber. Refined grains

have less. Include fiber in your

meals every day.

Snacks

  • Snacks help fuel your body

between meals. Junk foods

are not healthy snacks.

They have too much sugar,

salt, or fat. Healthy foods

can make great snacks.

Grab a banana. Eat yogurt.

Munch on popcorn or nuts.
