  3. What do you do with your feelings?

  4. How do you show good character?

  5. Who are your friends and family?

Big Idea(s)

  1. There are multiple dimensions of health: physical, mental, social, and emotional.

  2. You know you are healthy when your body, mind, actions toward others, and feelings are at their best.

  3. Everyone has all kinds of feelings and it is important that you let people know how you are feeling through your positive words, body language, and how you act. It is important to think about how your expression of your feelings will affect others. Everyone shares feelings in their own way.

  4. You show good character by acting in a way that is best for you and others, whether someone else is watching or not.

  5. Your family and friends are people you care about and who care about you. You should show respect to each and every person.

  6. You do things for many different reasons: because you want to or don't want to, you know you should or you shouldn't, someone told you, something looks attractive or inviting or dangerous or scary, or you know it is the right thing to do.

I'm So Happy! | Action Song for Kids | The Singing Walrus

English Language Learner (ELL) - Language Support

Use Feelings Words

Find a partner and use body language to express a feeling/emotion. Have your partner name the feeling/emotion you are expressing.

  • happy, sad, angry

OPENING (Engage)

Talk About It

How do you know when someone feels sad?

Possible Answers: She cries. His face looks sad. She tells me she's sad.

Our words, faces, and actions let people know how we feel. Everyone shares feelings in their own way.

Vocabulary Strategies

At the beginning of class we started off by each of you showing how you look when you "feel" happy, sad, and angry.

feeling - a way of knowing how you are

Happiness, sadness, and anger are all feelings.

All of these kids in the poster below are feeling something.

What are they feeling and how are they sharing their feelings?

Everyone pick one of the feelings in the picture above?

Turn to a neighbor and tell them the "feeling" you chose and describe a situation when you might feel that emotion.

Remember, we all have many different feelings, sometimes all in one day. It's important to think about how other people will respond to our facial expressions, words, and actions.

WORK PERIOD (Explore/Explain/Extend/Elaborate)

Share Todd Parr "Feelings Flash Cards: A great way for kids to share & learn about all kinds of emotions".

I will show you pictures of several different emotions or feelings. Please turn to your neighbor and share with them what positive thing you like to do when you feel this way.

What positive things do you like friends/family to do when you feel this way?

English Language Learner (ELL) Support

Using the Todd Parr "Feelings Flash Cards," have children turn over a card and say the word that names the feeling shown.

CLOSING (Evaluate)
