Psst! We're moving!
Lu Nandu didn’t say anything.
Jiang Xi was being held by him from behind, and his hands were still cold.
She knew very well that Lu Nandu had mistaken her for someone else just now, and his eyes were cold and sharp.
But this obvious question was difficult for Lu Nandu to answer. It seemed to be particularly hard for him to say it out loud.
Jiang Xi ultimately didn’t get an answer from him.
She finally didn’t say anything more and moved slightly. “Let’s go to the hospital.”
Lu Nandu probably didn’t expect her to change the subject and was stunned for a moment.
Jiang Xi didn’t see him move and turned her head slightly. “You don’t want to go to the hospital? Then you can help me with the wounds.”
This worked. Lu Nandu didn’t dare to treat her wounds now and quickly let go.
He simply couldn’t bear to hurt her in any way.
But the wounds on Jiang Xi’s back were caused by him.
Jiang Xi got up from the sofa. Apart from her lips being a little pale, there was no emotion on her face.
She looked at Lu Nandu. “I’ll go change. You can sit for a while.”
Lu Nandu on the sofa didn’t look at her, lowered his head slightly, and nodded.
Jiang Xi didn’t say anything more. She looked away, turned around, and went to the bedroom.
She wasn’t in there for long. When she came out, she had changed into a white t-shirt and jeans.
Lu Nandu was very anxious and was already by the entrance.
Jiang Xi had a jacket draped over her arm and walked to the entrance.
Lu Nandu was standing by the door waiting for her. Jiang Xi turned off the lights. “Let’s go.”
Lu Nandu hummed in a muffled voice.
Jiang Xi glanced at him and didn’t say anything. She walked past him and pushed the door open to leave.
Half an hour ago, it was still dark, but now, a faint light was already seeping through the sky. There was a cool, crisp feeling in the air.
Lu Nandu followed behind Jiang Xi. They walked one after the other in silence.
The streetlights were still on. There were very few cars on the road, just a few coming and going.
The two of them stood by the side of the road waiting for a car. Jiang Xi suddenly remembered Lu Nandu’s cold body upstairs.
She asked, “Are you cold?”
Jiang Xi hadn’t spoken to him since they came down. Lu Nandu was standing a step behind her. He looked up at her when he heard the question. “I’m not cold.”
Jiang Xi hummed.
They quickly hailed a car. Jiang Xi opened the car door first and got in.
Lu Nandu was hesitating whether to sit in the front passenger seat. Jiang Xi leaned out a little. “Aren’t you coming in?”
Lu Nandu immediately dismissed the idea of sitting in the front.
He got into the back seat, and Jiang Xi was sitting next to him.
After the taxi started, Jiang Xi closed her eyes and leaned against the seat. When she wasn’t talking, Lu Nandu didn’t bother her.
The nearest hospital wasn’t far from Jiang Xi’s house, and they arrived quickly.
Jiang Xi got out of the car first. The emergency room lobby was still brightly lit, and doctors and nurses were busy all night.
As they walked past the emergency room entrance, Jiang Xi thought of something and slowly stopped.
Lu Nandu also stopped with her.
Jiang Xi turned to look at him. “You can wait for me outside. I’ll go in by myself.”
Even though Lu Nandu was drunk when he went to the hospital last time, he still remembered some fragments after he sobered up. He remembered that Jiang Xi took him to the hospital that time, and he knew what he would do without even having to think about it.
He shook his head. “I’ll go in with you.”
Jiang Xi looked at him and didn’t avoid the topic. “Aren’t you scared?”
Lu Nandu looked up at her and didn’t say if he was scared or not. He insisted on going in with her. “What’s there to be scared of?”
Jiang Xi looked at him for a few seconds, then lowered her eyes, and finally turned around. “Let’s go.”
Lu Nandu followed her inside.
After registering, Jiang Xi went straight into the consultation room. Lu Nandu didn’t leave her side for a single step.
The doctor saw them come in, looked up at them, and asked from behind his mask, “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Xi: “An external wound.”
The doctor hummed and nodded. “Wait on the bed next to you.”
Jiang Xi walked over and sat down. It wasn’t convenient to wear an outer jacket while getting her wounds treated.
She took off her long jacket, and Lu Nandu, who was next to her, immediately took it.
Jiang Xi glanced at him and didn’t say anything, letting him take it.
The doctor came over and examined her wounds. After a while, he came back with his tools. As he put on his rubber gloves, he asked Jiang Xi, “How did this happen?”
Jiang Xi didn’t hesitate and said calmly, “I broke a glass and accidentally fell on it.”
The doctor wasn’t really interested in these questions. He just asked and then started to treat Jiang Xi’s wounds.
The room was exceptionally quiet for a while, with only the clanking sound of medical instruments.
The quieter the atmosphere, the more nervous a person becomes. Especially in a hospital setting, Lu Nandu’s palms started sweating for no reason.
Halfway through the treatment, the doctor suddenly said, “It’s not very serious.”
Lu Nandu felt a sudden sense of relief.
“But you still need to be careful not to let the wound get wet when you shower. It could get infected.”
Jiang Xi had her back to the doctor and Lu Nandu and hummed.
The doctor quickly disinfected and cleaned Jiang Xi’s wounds and applied the medicine. “Remember not to let it get wet at home.” He then turned to tidy up his tools.
Just as the wounds were treated and Jiang Xi’s clothes were put back down, Lu Nandu handed her the jacket.
Jiang Xi took it and put it on.
The doctor sat down at his desk. “I’ll prescribe some medicine for you to take home.”
Jiang Xi got off the bed and walked over to sit in a chair.
The doctor wrote a few lines fluently and tore off the prescription after he finished writing it. He handed it to Jiang Xi. “Take these medicines after your meals. The dosage is written on the prescription.”
Jiang Xi took the prescription. “Okay, thank you.”
Another patient came in, and Jiang Xi got up to let the person sit down.
She walked out with the prescription, and Lu Nandu followed behind.
Perhaps because Jiang Xi’s injury had distracted Lu Nandu, he wasn’t as agitated as he was when Jiang Xi accompanied him to the hospital last time.
Jiang Xi wasn’t walking fast, but Lu Nandu was still walking behind her and not catching up.
The air outside was much fresher than inside the hospital. Jiang Xi stopped by the side of the road.
Lu Nandu still hadn’t caught up and stopped a step away from her.
Their shadows were long under the streetlights. Jiang Xi didn’t turn to look at him. After a while, she asked, “Why aren’t you walking closer?”
But Lu Nandu suddenly asked her, “Aren’t you scared of me?”
Jiang Xi seemed to be confused by his question. She finally turned to look at him.
Lu Nandu met her gaze.
Jiang Xi was also looking at him.
After a moment of silence, Jiang Xi said, “Why would I be scared of you?”
Lu Nandu never expected Jiang Xi to answer like this and was stunned.
She was still looking at him. “You’re a normal person. You don’t kill or set things on fire. What’s there to be scared of?”
All this time, the people who condemned him and spoke ill of him without knowing the facts.
Once someone knew about his past, no one would say he was a normal person, let alone Jiang Xi, who he had hurt.
He was speechless for a moment. He swallowed a few times, but in the end, he couldn’t say anything.
Jiang Xi had already turned around to hail a cab.
She didn’t see Lu Nandu behind her, his lips slightly parted.
“But I’m scared.”
His voice was suppressed in his throat. It was only five short words, but it was filled with helplessness and defeat.
Jiang Xi didn’t hear it.
A taxi stopped in front of them. Jiang Xi, as usual, opened the back door and got in.
This time, Lu Nandu got into the back seat without her having to say anything.
The sky was already bright.
At six in the morning, the city was no longer sleeping, and cars were coming and going on the road.
The two of them got out of the car.
Lu Nandu said to Jiang Xi, “I won’t go up.”
Normally, Lu Nandu would have been shamelessly nagging her to let him come up for a little while longer.
Jiang Xi didn’t ask him anything and just hummed.
A few seconds later, she asked, “Did you forget anything?”
Lu Nandu shook his head.
He was lying. Jiang Xi remembered seeing his watch on the table when they left, but she thought he didn’t think it was important enough to wear and was planning to get it later.
She didn’t expose his lie and just nodded nonchalantly. “Okay.”
They were both silent for a while. Lu Nandu spoke first. “I’m going back now. The company is busy.”
“Okay, I’m going up too,” she took a few steps back to go back into the community. “You should go back.”
Lu Nandu nodded obediently.
Jiang Xi turned around.
After walking a few more steps, Lu Nandu suddenly called out to her from behind.
“Big sister.”
Jiang Xi stopped and turned to look at him.
Lu Nandu looked at her. “Next time.”
“If there’s a chance next time, I want to see you. Will you let me see you, please?”
Jiang Xi didn’t understand what he meant by that. Even though she knew something must have happened to Lu Nandu, she still couldn’t comprehend this fragmented sentence.
She just said, “Why not?”
Lu Nandu heard her answer and smiled, his first smile since the morning.
He had a naturally aggressive look, with deep-set eyes and a prominent nose.
But whenever he was with Jiang Xi, he would rein in his coldness and smile at her, revealing his two little canine teeth.
Jiang Xi was also inexplicably affected by his smile and found herself smiling with him. After a few silent laughs, she said, “Alright, go back. I’m going back to sleep too.”
Hearing that, Lu Nandu felt a little guilty for disturbing Jiang Xi’s sleep last night.
His droopy eyes made him look harmless. “Big sister, I didn’t mean to.”
“I’m sorry.”
Jiang Xi heard his apology and said, “I’m not mad at you.”
He kept talking about going back but wouldn’t end the conversation. Jiang Xi said to him, “Do you still want to go back? If not, come upstairs with me.”
The second half of her sentence was just a test.
And Lu Nandu’s reaction proved Jiang Xi’s guess was right. Lu Nandu didn’t agree, which was the complete opposite of how he was when he was desperate to cling to her.
He didn’t explicitly reject her offer.
“The company is busy. I’ll... come to see you next time.”
Jiang Xi was silent for a few seconds as she looked at him, then hummed in agreement. She didn’t say anything else, turned around, and went upstairs.
Lu Nandu lied to Jiang Xi.
He didn’t go back to the company.
An hour later, a taxi stopped outside the Lu family mansion.
A few people were cleaning in the garden and were surprised to see their young master get out of a taxi.
They had never seen their young master return in a taxi before.
But Lu Nandu seemed oblivious. He hurriedly got out of the car, his face not looking very good.
When Lu Nandu came over, they quickly greeted him. Lu Nandu was probably in a bad mood or in a hurry to do something, so he didn’t respond.
Grandpa Lu and his wife were having a meal in the dining room.
Lu Nandu suddenly walked in from outside.
He hadn’t been back for a few days, and he almost never came back at this time. Liang Sirong was pleasantly surprised to see him.
“A-Du, why are you back?”
The next second, she saw the expression on Lu Nandu’s face, and the smile on her face slowly disappeared.
Grandpa Lu, however, just glanced at him lightly, then lowered his eyes and said nonchalantly.
“Having an episode again?”
Lu Nandu, who was standing by the door, had a very bad look on his face. The fists by his side slowly tightened.
Liang Sirong noticed his change in mood and immediately put down her knife and fork, got up, and walked over to comfort him. “It’s okay. Come to the room with me.”
Lu Nandu was surprisingly obedient.
Liang Sirong originally wanted to take him to the living room on the second floor. Halfway up the stairs, Lu Nandu suddenly spoke.
His voice was hoarse. “Auntie, give me Xu Qingzhou’s number.”
Liang Sirong was stunned the moment she heard him say that.
Xu Qingzhou was Lu Nandu’s former psychiatrist. But later, Lu Nandu refused to continue with the treatment. He firmly believed he would get better on his own and didn’t believe he was sick.
He was resistant and disgusted by it and didn’t even keep Xu Qingzhou’s number. He was convinced he wouldn’t need to contact him.
But now, he was actively asking her for it.
Liang Sirong was a little worried and was about to ask him what had happened.
But Lu Nandu had already started pleading for help. “Auntie, I need Xu Qingzhou’s number.”
