Psst! We're moving!
The intense competition came to an end in the evening.
The Espers who led their teams to victory rang the gigantic bell with flushed faces, receiving a roar of cheers. Hundreds of broadcast cameras captured the entire scene in their lenses and broadcast it. The faces of the young people who had defeated monsters and their competitors, smiling brightly, filled every screen.
This was the picture that Geum Gang-seop wanted to create using monsters and Titans. A terrifying monster that emerged from the sea, and Ark, which appeared miraculously to destroy the monster and rise again as a savior. Looking at the stadium, it seemed as if they had prepared enough cameras and actors to film that scene.
Leaving the cheers that were close to madness behind, Yoon Tae-ha and Cheon Geon-young returned to the quiet villa.
As soon as they arrived at the villa, Cheon Geon-young simply washed his hands and went into the kitchen. He took out a pot and asked, just to confirm.
“Is ramen okay?”
“That’s what I want to eat the most right now.”
Yoon Tae-ha, who had entrusted dinner to him, teleported to the roof to check for miniature drone surveillance cameras. No one was caught in her radar.
“Caw!”
However, there was a crow on the outdoor deck. She landed nimbly on the deck from the roof and held out her hand to the familiar bird.
“Caw?”
But the crow moved its thin legs and scurried away to the side. Yoon Tae-ha awkwardly withdrew her hand.
“I was just happy to see you. I heard things went well because you cooperated so well.”
The animal’s eyes, as shiny as black pearls, didn’t even blink. Feeling embarrassed for no reason, Yoon Tae-ha pointed to the towel on the sunbed and told it it could rest there. When she returned to the living room, Cheon Geon-young had finished preparing the ramen and called her.
“Eat it before it gets soggy.”
“Thank you for the food.”
As they put their heads together and cooled the steaming noodles, the weight of the mission they had to accomplish two days later felt insignificant. The two of them satisfyingly finished their meal with the spicy ramen.
The next day, the equipment that Kwon Hyuk had prepared was scheduled to arrive at the villa. Since they had no plans to visit the main island, they only had to spend the whole day figuring out a way to safely steal the key.
“Casinos and hospitals are facilities with particularly thorough body checks, aren’t they? We won’t be able to use equipment that goes in the ear, will they give us new equipment?”
Yoon Tae-ha, who was sitting leaning against the sofa and looking at the emergency escape routes of AMC, asked. Cheon Geon-young, who was lying on the single-person sofa and thinking about something, answered.
“Something that covers your teeth like a cap will come. The sound will be transmitted directly without a physical device in your ear.”
“It won't block the sound even if I go into a casino VIP room, right?”
“Another agent already went in and came out. They said it works normally.”
“That’s a relief.”
She smiled wryly and lowered her head. But a few seconds later, she asked Cheon Geon-young again.
“What about weapons? You don’t seem to be using the watch anymore; did it get broken in the green sea? I heard that people who use fire often replace their weapons.”
“I brought a handgun-type weapon separately. The watch isn’t here. I took it to a hideout in Seoul.”
“A hideout? Are you talking about the abandoned building I took you to?”
“I don’t know of any other place.”
“Why did you put it there?”
“In case you came.”
“…”
“I thought you might need a place to rest if you ever came to Seoul alone.”
Cheon Geon-young said it as if it were nothing and picked up his tablet. He then held the tablet horizontally, then vertically, changing its direction back and forth. He seemed to dislike something. His expression hadn't changed, but it was an uncharacteristically flustered action for him.
“Then, no one would have stolen the watch while we were here, right?”
“That won’t happen. I bought the building.”
Hearing the answer, Yoon Tae-ha’s face was filled with confusion. To summarize, Cheon Geon-young bought a worthless building because of a slight possibility that she might come. The tips of the man’s ears, who had made a tremendously inefficient choice, were slightly red.
“You said it looked like a failed investment property.”
“I’m tired. I’ll go to bed first.”
He got up from his seat after finishing what he wanted to say. Her attempt to continue the conversation was blocked. It was early evening, and it wasn’t even time for bed, but he went into his room.
Is he embarrassed? Or is he shy? Yoon Tae-ha lowered her head back to the floor plan of the medical facility. However, she couldn't concentrate because she kept thinking of the man who had disappeared into the room.
The morning of the day they were to enter AMC to steal the key arrived.
Yoon Tae-ha and Cheon Geon-young started their day by putting a thin and almost unnoticeable communication device on each other’s teeth. They each exchanged a short communication with Kwon Hyuk to confirm that the new device was working properly.
After Cheon Geon-young’s turn was over, Yoon Tae-ha went outside and closed the door when it was her turn. Cheon Geon-young was in the living room preparing a bag of money and a gun.
— Can you hear my voice clearly?
“Yes. I can hear you well. It’s more comfortable than I thought.”
— The surveillance cameras at AMC can be controlled from our side, but we can’t manage the Titans walking around. So it will be safer for the agent to have nothing in her ear.
Yoon Tae-ha went into the outdoor shower next to the pool and leaned her back against the wooden panel.
“Can you hear me out on one concern?”
— I'll listen as long as you want.
“I don’t think Yoon Jung-hoon’s greed will end with Chairman Cheon.”
This was a thought that had been bothering Yoon Tae-ha ever since she heard that he had taken over someone else's body.
— What do you mean by that?
“Chairman Cheon has a lot of money, power, and a wide network of connections. If Yoon Jung-hoon wanted to continue his research, there would have been no better target. But he was a person who was active in the first generation. No matter how much guiding is poured in, it’s impossible to overcome a predetermined lifespan, isn’t it?”
— You think he will switch bodies again. Do you think the next target will be Cheon Geon-young?
“I don’t know if he intended for Geon-young’s constitution to change. But whether he intended it or not, that ability is something Yoon Jung-hoon has longed for for decades.”
— I understand what you mean. I will assign a magician who is a dimension-shifter to the team supporting Cheon Geon-young. They will calmly deal with the snake’s tricks better than we can.
“Thank you for thinking of that.”
— It’s something I should do. When you enter AMC, Hong Eun-soo from the Dawn faction will be in charge of communication according to my orders.
A moment later, Yoon Tae-ha returned to the living room. Cheon Geon-young, who had finished his preparations, was waiting for her. A small horn honked from outside the front door, announcing that the car that would take them had arrived. The two of them exchanged a brief look and stepped out the door.
Since their destinations were different today, two electric cars were waiting. Cheon Geon-young got in the car first and left. Yoon Tae-ha also boarded the electric car with a transparent roof according to the employee’s guidance.
“Is your schedule to go to AMC for a health check-up this afternoon correct?”
“Yes. That’s right.”
The employee confirmed that she was going to AMC and then started the car.
The car she was in passed through the Central Hub, which was full of buildings with unique exteriors, and a beautiful park where hydrangeas and irises were in full bloom. How long had they been driving on the coastal road where the emerald sea was shimmering outside the window? The car's speed slowed down, and it arrived at the entrance of a facility where guards with guns were on alert.
There was no visible barrier, but since the scenery in front of them was shimmering like a heat haze, a huge shield seemed to be in operation. When the employee rolled down the window, one of the guards approached with a terminal that could recognize irises.
“This is a procedure to confirm that you are a guest with a reservation. We ask for your cooperation.”
Yoon Tae-ha willingly rolled down the window and showed her eyes. The guard, who was looking at the terminal screen, bowed his head and stepped back.
“Confirmation complete. Please go in.”
When entry was granted, the transparent shield in front of them disappeared in an instant. The car smoothly passed through the entrance and went up the hill. A building shaped like three rectangles staggered and stacked on top of each other gradually came into view.
“We’re almost there. The person in charge will probably be waiting at the front door.”
He was right. When they arrived in front of the building, two friendly-looking female employees greeted her.
“Hello. I’m Jung Hye-eun, and I will be guiding Agent Yoon Tae-ha today.”
“My name is Lee Jin-sol.”
Jung Hye-eun seemed to have a higher position. After getting out of the car, she listened to Jung Hye-eun’s kind guidance and checked in, then filled out a medical questionnaire in a room with a plush sofa. The question asking about her parents' existing medical history did not feel as awkward as before. Unlike before, she now knew what kind of people her parents were.
When she finished writing, Lee Jin-sol came in and took her to the body measurement room.
“The company has requested two special tests to confirm that your motor skills have returned to a normal range, would you like to proceed with those as well?”
“Please do.”
Soon, Yoon Tae-ha was guided to a large room with a mirror on the front and a mat on the floor. Lee Jin-sol provided comfortable clothes to change into and told her the location of the dressing room in the room before leaving.
Just as she was unbuttoning her shirt and heading to the dressing room, Hong Eun-soo suddenly whispered.
— Be sure to take off your clothes in the dressing room. There are doctors behind the mirror in the room you're in. Ugh… that’s gross.
It’s an interrogation room mirror. Yoon Tae-ha stopped unbuttoning and went into the dressing room to change her clothes and came out. She then stretched as usual, waiting for the person who would conduct the test. In the meantime, Hong Eun-soo reported on the current situation.
— There are a total of three factions in AMC right now. The first, Geum Gang-seop’s team. The second, our team. The third, the naive neutral team that has no idea we’re fighting Geum Gang-seop. The goal is to handle things without the neutral team knowing, if possible. The maximum attack we can inflict on the neutral team is knocking them out. There are some Espers, but it should be fine, right? If it’s fine, pat your back.
Yoon Tae-ha naturally sat on the floor, grabbed her toes, and bent forward. And then she hit her back and lower back with her fist, as if she had done an excessive movement.
— You listen so well, our Tae-ha. So cute.
It was a voice that sounded like it was rewarding a pet dog. Yoon Tae-ha gave up and focused on stretching. Just then, Lee Jin-sol came in with a polite knock. Moon So-eun, wearing a gown, was also with her.
