Psst! We're moving!
Zhou Yan looked at the hickeys on Zhou Shu-rong’s thigh and glared at her, “Did you sleep with him?”
Zhou Shu-rong tugged at her skirt, “No.”
Zhou Yan wasn’t particularly interested. “Did you use a condom?”
“Mom, we didn’t sleep together,” Zhou Shu-rong mumbled. “Other parents aren’t like this.”
“What can I do if you’ve already slept together?” Zhou Yan said.
Zhou Shu-rong sat down, “We really didn’t.”
“Stand up.”
Zhou Shu-rong stood up, putting her hands behind her back, not standing properly.
Zhou Yan glanced at the other room and continued to talk to her, “He’s not a good guy. You need to be careful.”
Zhou Shu-rong still had questions. “How did you guys get here? And what’s this about a teacher? What’s going on? Did you know him before?”
Zhou Yan got angry just talking about it. “Over ten years ago, your dad noticed that someone was paying close attention to him. We thought it was someone from our past life who wouldn’t let go, but then we found out it was a child, Shen Cheng’s child.”
Zhou Shu-rong knew that Shen Cheng was Shen Ting-wen’s dad. “What about Shen Cheng?”
Zhou Yan said, “I don’t know him, but your dad said he’s not a good person, just like your dad.”
Zhou Shu-rong understood. “He works both sides of the law?”
That wasn’t the main point. Zhou Yan said, “At the time, we thought this Shen Cheng had some kind of motive, so we observed him for a while and found that he didn’t. It was all the child’s own idea, so we were very curious about what he was trying to do.”
“What’s this about a teacher?”
“Your dad had saved a mercenary before and has a good eye for talent. He felt that this child was very clever. It seemed he was starting with you to investigate our family, but his focus wasn’t entirely on our family. He handled the situation very well.”
Zhou Shu-rong understood. “So you took him under your wing?”
Zhou Yan shook her head. “He was used as a pawn.”
Zhou Shu-rong frowned.
“What makes you think your dad is a good person? On the surface, he’s been living a secluded life with us on the island, but in reality, he’s never given up on fighting drug trafficking. Your uncle also hid it from me, and the two of them have done a lot of things in private. For all these years, everything he couldn’t do himself was handed over to this child.”
Zhou Shu-rong remembered that Shen Ting-wen had taken a leave of absence a few days ago...
Zhou Yan said, “He was the one who came to us. It would have been a waste not to use him.”
Zhou Shu-rong’s mind was in a whirl, filled with mixed emotions.
“I only found out yesterday that many of the drug trafficking and arms dealing gangs in places like Baltimore in Maryland, Manhattan in New York, Mexico, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, the Golden Triangle, Iran, and Afghanistan are all connected to your dad. When he couldn’t completely wipe them out, he found a way to use them. The reason your dad has been able to spend so much time with us is that Shen Yu-an is the one managing and maintaining all those organizations.”
Zhou Shu-rong slowly repeated the name, “Shen Yu-an...”
Zhou Yan took her hand. “When we first met him, his name wasn’t Shen Ting-wen.”
Zhou Shu-rong was very confused. “So, when I came back to the country, my dad had him protect me?”
Zhou Yan denied it. “We always believed that his target was your dad, until the news of you two dating reached us. Only then did we realize that his target had been you all along.”
Zhou Shu-rong looked at her, her eyes full of confusion.
Zhou Yan said, “He wasn’t using you to investigate your dad. He only ever wanted to know about you. Later, by a strange turn of events, your dad started training him and having him do things for him, and he did everything well. When you came back, your dad wanted him to handle some business in Manhattan. You two weren’t supposed to meet, but that was the first time he resisted your dad, saying he would go after he graduated. Your dad didn’t force him and instead had him protect you, but it turns out we sent a lamb into a tiger’s den.”
Zhou Yan’s last words were a bit self-deprecating. “This is a case of being too clever for his own good. The reason your dad is so angry is that he never thought his entire life, he, Si Wen, would be played by a little bastard.”
Zhou Shu-rong felt this was unreal. “He’s still in school. How could he help my dad?”
“He didn’t do much in the early years. He would just take advantage of his time in international training camps, summer camps, and winter camps to learn things from your dad. He only started getting involved in things in recent years.”
Zhou Shu-rong subconsciously asked, “Is it very dangerous?”
