William Power had two winners under National Hunt rules, having had his first ride at Perth on September 21, 1948, when finishing fourth and last on Roxylin in the Luncarty Novices’ Chase.
His first success was at Stratford on April 4, 1949, when Town Crier defeated 21 rivals to land the Binton Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1), taking the lead after the last flight and beating Dusky Chimes, the mount of Derek Ancil, by three lengths.
William did not retain the ride and had to wait 11 months for his only other success. It came at Sedgefield on March 11, 1950, when his mount Acre Valley took an early lead and made the rest to finish two lengths ahead of namesake Jimmy Power on Peaceful George and land the Standhope Selling Handicap Hurdle.
Again, he did not keep the ride and there were no more wins, although he held a licence for a couple more seasons. He had his final ride at Wetherby on Easter Monday, April 14, 1952, when Ching Ling finished third in the Harrogate Novices’ Chase.
