Charles Henry Puttock rode just one winner over jumps, when 20/1 outsider Joyeux Hector was successful in the Bentley Selling Handicap Hurdle at Doncaster on December 7, 1946, prevailing after a long battle with Bridlington, the mount of Jim McLoughlin, to score by a short head.
The nine-year-old had last won a race in January 1941 and had been unplaced in all of his nine starts since National Hunt racing resumed following an absence of almost three years.
Charlie had made his riding debut on Joyeux Hector when unplaced in the Selling Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen on September 21, 1946, and had partnered him on one other occasion before their Doncaster victory. However, following two more unplaced efforts Charlie was replaced and had no further success.
He finished his career much as he had started, when Gay Gordon was unplaced in the Selling Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen on Easter Monday, March 29, 1948.
