William Pigott-Brown

Sir William Brian Pigott-Brown (3rd Baronet) was born at Windsor on January 20, 1941 and, in 1962, inherited £750,000 with which he built the Aston Upthorpe Stud at Oxfordshire.


His first ride in public fell.

He rode his first winner, Newby, at Lingfield on March 16, 1960 and went on to become Champion Amateur that season (1960-61) with 28 wins.

He repeated the feat in 1962-63 with 20 wins.


Sir William rode a total of 74 winners.


His biggest win came at Cheltenham in 1961 when winning the National Hunt Chase on Superfine.


His grandfather, Gilbert Cotton, also won this race in 1912 on The Rejected lV.


After a long illness, Sir William died on June 1, 2020 aged 79.
