William George Parker had plenty of rides under National Hunt rules in the 1930s, ending with 14 wins, recording a best score of four in the 1933/34 season.
His first mount was at Nottingham on October 28, 1929, when The Merchant, trained by Ernie Orsborn, finished unplaced in the Wellbeck Selling Handicap Hurdle. It was the same horse that provided him with his first win nearly a year later when landing the Blidworth Selling Handicap Chase at Southwell on September 1, 1930. The 12-year-old was winning for the first time since December 1925 and beat Count Volta, ridden by Eric Foster, by three-quarters of a length.
The pair enjoyed a second victory two months later at Wolverhampton when coming home 12 lengths clear of champion jockey Billy Stott on Fairfield to land the Stanton Selling Handicap Chase.
Over the following seasons he had three wins on the selling chasers Musical Catch and Spalding, as well as two on Marriage Settlement. The latter also gave him his only ride over the Liverpool fences when falling in the Grand Sefton Chase on November 12, 1936.
His final success, his only one not over fences, was at Southwell on April 16, 1938, when Cider Prince won the Mansfield Handicap Hurdle, beating Decorated by five lengths. Southwell was also the venue for his final ride when Calydon II was a faller in the Balderton Selling hurdle on February 17, 1941.
