Charles John Prince rode three winners over jumps in the mid-1980s. He was a conditional jockey with Barry Morgan, who trained at Barton under Needwood, near Burton-on-Trent, and had his first ride at Warwick on November 28, 1985, when Our Chicklette, trained by his boss, finished a modest fourth in the Longbridge Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Hurdle.
After coming third at Nottingham next time out, the pair made it third time lucky with a four-lengths victory in the Amontillado Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Hurdle at Ludlow on December 17, having taken the lead on the run-in.
Charlie’s second winner was not until May 8, 1986, this time leading all the way on the seven-year-old Galtrim, trained by Tom Bill, and holding off the challenge of Felixstowe Lad to land the Fishburn Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield.
There was an even longer wait for his third and final victory, which came at Fakenham on March 19, 1987,when Dunstall, despite making mistakes, led approaching the last fence and came away on the flat to win the Dewfresh Mushrooms Handicap Chase by five lengths. The ten-year-old was trained by Barry Morgan and had won on his previous start at Leicester on Robert Stronge.
Charlie held a licence for at least one more season but rode no more winners.
