After riding one winner under National Hunt rules in 1925 there was a long gap before Arthur James Price returned to add as further eight victories in the first half of the 1930s.
He had his initial ride at Cardiff on October 8, 1923, when Encerrig was unplaced in the Windsor Hurdle. His first win came in dramatic fashion on Whit Monday, June 1, 1925, when three horses lined up for the Ebbw Vale Novices’ Chase at Newport. The joint favourites Night Light, ridden by Tom Costello, and Simon’s Craft, the mount of Billy Stott, both refused, while Arthur’s mount P.S. fell. However, Arthur remounted the seven-year-old and finished alone to claim the prize.
Arthur had three unplaced rides at the Glamorgan Hunt fixture at Cowbridge on April 30, 1927 but then did not appear on the racing scene for five years. However, at Chepstow on November 19, 1932, he had his first win since 1925 when Black Pointer took the Forest of Dean Handicap Hurdle, scoring by four lengths. He added four more before the end of the season, with victories on successive racing days at Worcester in April and Newport in June.
The 1933/34 season started well with a winner on both days of Tenby two-day meeting in August, but that was all he managed for the entire campaign.
His winning career ended as it had begun with success in a three-runner race. This time it was at Newton Abbot on September 13, 1934 and, on this occasion, one of his rivals, Ottawa, ridden by Gerry Wilson, stayed on his feet, but Arthur on Bellamite, beat him by 20 lengths, although the 31lb the runner-up was conceding to the winner probably helped. Bellamite was trained by Colonel Morgan Lindsay at Ystrad Mynach, Glamorgan, who had also supplied Arthur with his first winner nine years earlier.
His riding career ended with a fall from Mob Law in the Penllyn Selling Hurdle at Cardiff on June 7, 1938.
