Although Robin John Pfeiffer rode over jumps for several seasons in the 1970s, he only had one win.
Attached to Malpas, Cheshire trainer Doug Francis, brother of Dick, Robin had his first ride on Brooklander at Worcester on March 29, 1972, coming home seventh of eleven finishers in the Client Novice Selling Hurdle.
He later joined the stable of John Edwards, and it was for him that he had his only success when Royal Slave, despite making mistakes including one at the last, proved too good for the favourite Quintus in the November Opportunity Handicap Chase at Wolverhampton on November 26, 1973. It was only by a neck that the nine-year-old triumphed over Jeff Barlow’s mount, carrying the famous marron and yellow colours of owner-trainer Edward Courage.
Robin did not keep the ride and had few other chances – he had only six rides during that 1973/74 campaign.
He finished his career when tailed off on Habost in the Hay Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2) on Hereford on Tuesday, April 11, 1978. He did at least have that one Wolverhampton success to his name, unlike many other jockeys who tried and failed to ride a winner.
Robin Pfeiffer's solitary winner came at Wolverhampton on November 26, 1973.
