Frank Page

Riding at exercise on Newmarket Heath with Matthew Dawson’s string on Thursday, September 4, 1890, Frank Page, the seventeen-year-old son of well-known Birmingham jockey John Page, was fatally injured when his mount crossed its legs and fell, pitching the unfortunate apprentice onto his head and shattering his skull. Frank was rushed to Rous Hospital but died early on Friday morning without regaining consciousness. At an inquest held at Newmarket the next day, a verdict of ‘Accidental death’ was returned. Frank Page’s body was conveyed to Birmingham for burial.
