In the mid-2000s, I came across the manga by Minekura Kazuya. She had a great story, irreverently modified as it is of the 16th century fantasy story Journey To The West. Her version is known as Saiyuki, and her early drawings from 1997 were somewhat stylised which in a way fitted the bold nature of her story-telling. In later years, her lines became more sophisticated and appealing, and then once again stylised after several more years. Anyway. I decided I would try to make fan art of semi-realistic 3D CG versions.
My most recent version was made 10 years after my final development version was completed. If I am still alive ten years later, I will make another commemorative fan art version - perhaps in Extended Reality, who knows.
THIS PAGE IS STILL BEING ADDED TO AND WILL FEATURE ADDITIONAL CONTENT OVER TIME.
PLEASE KINDLY CHECK BACK OFTEN IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE OF MY 3D CG FAN ART OF THE SAIYUKI BOYS.
THANK YOU.
I developed this character using the Michael 3 SR2 figure form Daz3D, which was available back in the day when I first started my project. I continue to use this figure even today, because I feel the morph set by TiffT758 is the most suitable for my fan art version of the character.
Kinkan Crown, Sanzo Houshi Veil, Sanzo robe, Maten sutra, Breastplate, Sash with knot and ties. The veil, gown, sutra, breastplate and sash are dynamic cloth in Poser pro 11.
I used the templates provided by Daz3D and painted the bodysuit overlays, for use with the base skin textures by TiffT758.
Darius Hair by Swam and Goldtassel, styled by me. Smith&Wesson 36 gun by Motokamishii. M3 Boots by Dodger.
Rather than discuss all the details behind my latest version, I will simply show the working renders which I made before I arrived at the final scene.

Only fans of the series will understand... I used Shade3D and Poser to create this fan art Maten Scripture. (The letters may be inverted on the sutras, but look, this is just an artistic impression.)
I used the Michael 3 character.
