My Second Skins for Pauline 2 figure

Not strictly 3D modelling per se

FOR CYCLES AND SUPERFLY

Second Skin is a texture overlay which gives the rendered figure the appearance of wearing clothes (albeit rather figure hugging ones).

A UV texture template is typically used as a guide to find out where the painted-on clothes should go on the basic skin texture.

For complete noobs: in an image editor, paint the clothes in a new layer, over the layer with the base texture. Export the combined image. Use it in your shader for the figure in Poser. Warning: If using other people's base texture, do not re-distribute the version with your second skin painted on - that's called a derivative item and is an infringement if redistributed.

So, how to overcome this problem, if you want to re-distribute your own second skins ? Use layers inside Poser Pro 11 Material Room.

I my case, I can't paint fancy second skin textures for nuts. I therefore use procedrual textures in Poser Material Room to act as fabrics or textile prints. I use the UV template as a guide in my external graphics software, and create transparency maps. I take these transmaps and use them in shader nodes in layers above the base layer for the body part I want to be covered with 2nd skin clothing. In this case, you are using your own transparency maps and you own nodes. People using your 2nd Kin transmaps will need to supply their own base character skin textures.

Anyway. I made two videos to show the results of my 2nd skin creations for the Pauline 2 figure. I rendered in low-resolution draft mode, so the images are grainy.

My Shader Nodes and Layers for 2nd Skin Clothing

So, for the Pauline 2 figure, I retained her default skin textures, and used Poser Material Room Layers to add the Second Skin clothing. In order to do this, I had to create transmaps, being guided by her UVTemplates. I used the transmaps I had created in Cycles Shader trees.

NOTE: The Pauline 2 figure Torso material zone covers both her abdomen and chest, as well as her hip. So, I had to use two layers for the second skin in the Torso zone: one to apply the shirt shader and one to apply the pants shader. As this is probably the most complicated zone to set up layers and shaders for, I am using it as an example. For other body zones, adding just one layer to carry the second skin shader would suffice.

I hope this example is helpful to the reader.

(Reminder: these are for Cycles shader system and Superfly rendering)

Getting tattoos on Pauline 2

Shader node setup

FOR CYCLES SHADERS AND SUPERFLY RENDERING

Here I show how I added my tattoos created with Clip Studio Assets to the Pauline 2 figure using Poser Material Room. I retain her default skin texture in the Base Layer. I add my shader node and image inputs into a new layer above that.

LEFT: The rendered result.

In this way, I did not compromise the default skin.

My Voxel Girl Posable Figure In Poser

I modelled a voxel female and rigged her in Poser software.

She is available at my ShareCG webpage. (You will need to scroll through my freebies to find her - her geometry OBJ file is in a separate upload from her Poser CR2 file)

I made a new Vroid posable character

Based on a new avatar base in Vroid Studio v1.2 Please check out her moves at my gallery in Vroid Hub.

I modify the base Vroid Studio avatars to create my own characters.

Transparency setup for Face-Me images textured onto vertical planes

This was a solution used for Poser software, in the days of low-specification computer hardware and early rendering engine techology. Just apply an image to a vertical plane, and make the parts of the plane without the image, transparent. It kept the polygon count in the scene low so that the system could render the scene without choking.
