I WILL ADD MY NOTES AND COMMENTS TO THE IMAGES LATER.

I AM STILL UPDATING MY WEBSITE.

My attempt at creating Saroul Pants for Males

I had a hard time modelling saroul pants in 3D for use in Poser software.

Some untextured renders of Sketchup models

These were rendered using Sketchup native renderer during the time before it went to Trillium. Back in those days, the render quality was limited by Sketchup. Back then, there were no Denoiser software like the Intel and nVidia versions we have nowadays. The renders remain blotchy ...

Very Lo-Res Sketchup Models rendered in Poser software

These are of joke quality.

Dawn figure rendered in Poser

I seldom use the Dawn figure. Everything in this scene is 3D asset. All assets are 3rd-party. I composed the scenes and rendered them in Poser software.

(LEFT): This is the only Dawn render I really like.

City Scenes

I used 3D assets from Whitmagus to compose and render my city scenes in Poser. Back in the day, there were no modern skyscraper buildings and modern city assets for Poser use. Whitemagus was the only creator to offer such buildings and city scenes for Poser.

Dude 2 Figure - Holy Person

I was using the BBmeter - some sort of utility in Poser software, to help with tone adjustment and such. The scene is a bit mystical, I have to admit.

The strange disc is a utility to help set correct lighting levels in the scene.

The above is a transparent PNG

Holy Light

Satellite

Hana-san modelled the satellite which I rendered in Poser. It is supposed to be a Chinese satellite.

I made a Harajuku-style baggy long top for the G2Koji figure

Note that this figure is not from the Daz3D line of Genesis 2 figures. This is the Poser default content G2 series of figures. For some time, there was nomenclature ambiguity between the two G2 series. I created his hair geometry; other assets are 3rd-party.

Sculptris Flame Yokai - another attempt

I tried to use Sculptris to improve my Flame Yokai prop. Yokai is a type of Japanese mythological creature. I painted its face in anime style but the UV mapping causes the face to show on the reverse side as well. I did not bother to fix this item. Test render down with Poser software.

Aiko 4 rendered with Sketch Render style in Poser

I am quite surprised the Poser Sketch Render style (with my manual adjustments to settings) could produce this result.

Nana Character for Aiko 4 Figure

Nana character by DeriDeri

An anime-style character which I posed and rendered in Poser software. I am useing 3rd-party assets in the scenes. I composed the scenes. The headshot is used as my avatar for my SoundCloud account.

Asuka Character for Aiko 4 Figure

Asuka Character by DeriDeri

From my old notes: Use of Poser Pro 11 and Clip Studio Paint Pro. I generated 2 images from inside Poser: one with Black and White Toon line and one with Colour Toon line, both using Geometric line as well. I brught both images into Clip Studio Paint Pro and combined them. I then added Fallen Leaves brush and Tarot border - these are default content with CSP Pro. I exported the final image.

3D Assets used:

  • Figure is Aiko4 from Daz3D;

  • Character is Asuka by DeriDeri.

  • Clothing is unfortunately not traceble to source due to hard drive crash and loss of archival information.

  • Amber Hair is by LadyLittleFox.

  • Umbrella is by WillsMind and hhdrache.

  • Rain is by Modualz.

  • Background prop is P8 Studio by Smith Micro, custom material shaders by me.

Autumn School Anime Feeling

Anny Character for Aiko 4 Figure

Anny character by ManiHoni.

Scenes posed, composed and rendered by Juniper Chew, September 2016

Poseable 3D figure Aiko4 and morphs, and School Uniform, by DAZ3D; Anny Character by Manihoni; NeNe Hair by Red Viper; P8 Studio by Smith Micro; customised shader material settings by me. Scene settings, composition, and rendering: by me, using Poser Pro 11 Firefly renderer. Rendered output was processed by me using Clip Studio Paint Pro, and then further processed by me using Krita.

Living Dolly Character for Aiko 3 Figure

This is pretty old, so I can't recall all the details.

The clothes are Raikoh for A3 by BatLab. The hair geometry was extracted from early version of Clip Studio Paint. The character is Living Dead Dolly 2.

My asset manifest records a Kina character by Lashka and an Aiko3 character by Crescent. The clothes are by Kobamax and the hair is Moko Hair. I rendered using Poser.

I added effects with Clip Studio Paint.

AnimeDoll in Poser

I used toon style render mode in Poser. It works well for this figure by MayaX aka StudioMaya aka MrMaya.

AnimeDoll Male figure

The AnimeDoll Male figure is by MayaX aka StudioMaya aka MrMaya.

The clothes are the Yakuza Suit by Mao Dante.

I rendered the scene using Geometric Toon Outline in Poser. I considered my render is Not Very Good.

My other Anime Doll Male renders may be found here:

Akiba Nights Characters

I had a disk crash and some data loss for this these items and never completed the project.

Here is my Otaku Young Man who is a big fan of anime. He is one of those who visits Akihabara anime lifestyle shops regularly. I made the Japanese characters in Shade3D. If you can read the words, they are the classic joke phrases used in anime games of a particular genre.

Characters imported from Shade3D; textured and rendered in Poser software.

I created a background to represent Akihabara (stylistically only)

I also created lights and bokeh geometries. These were made in Shade3D. I added a Maid Cafe staff member and rendered in Poser. As I mentioned, I had a hard disk error and lost the original files. I had to take a screen capture from my former DeviantArt gallery as a record, hence the watermark. I abandoned the project because I lost all the scene files.

My Headscarf Dynamic Cloth Prop

I modelled a headscarf geometry using Shade3D and made it into a dynamic cloth prop inside Poser. I added morph for adjustment at the back. The model is Alysha 2, one of the female figures in the Aluson series of Poser 8 (!) default content. I also modelled her gown, but did not intend it to be part of a clothing set with the headscarf. I posed the figure, and added a 3rd-party mobile device.

Animals in Poser

AM Baby Elephant figure

I set up the scene using my own dynamic hair grass prop, and a plane with water shader.

AM Artic Fox

I set up this scene. This was a long time ago and my asset manifest is missing. I believe I used a 3rd-party night sky with moon, and terrain. I added my own plant geometries and made a snow material (correct term is shader, but Poser user convention back in the day was material) for the ground. As this was rendered using an older version of Poser, the shader setup was very limited.

Absolute failure of cloak modelling attempt

Tried to create an anime villian's cloak. Failed miserably. I have some notes to self in the last image, but frankly, I have avoided this project and abandoned it.

(Information to be provided later)

ARTISTIC NUDES ADVISORY -

Some test renders of my attempt at generating anime-style MakeHuman figures for use in Poser software.

I rigged the MakeHuman geometries with the Lo Res Male and Female rigs in Poser Setup Room.

The figures are not particularly attractive for the anime genre. After Vroid Studio was launched by Pixiv in mid-2018, it became much easier for me to create 3D accurate anime-style figures for use in Poser.

More Autodesk Characters in Poser

I tried to generate anime-proportioned FBX characters for use inside Poser. I posed these figures, set up the scenes, and rendered them in Poser.

Special effects props in Poser

I created special effects geometry for this scene. The figure is 3rd-party.

For Singapore's Bicentennial - A Bishie Merlion

I tried to create a bishie verison of a merlion but it ended up a mess. I used Shade3D to create the tail and Blender3D Fluid Simulation to create the static water spout. these renders are made in Poser. I tried using the AnimeDoll Male figure and the Koji G2 figure for test renders. The Koji G2 lion mane hair is my own creation using Poser Hair Room. I reated the tail teture using a pattern making app in iOS.

My verdict: FAILED. Project status: ABANDONED.

My Early Celshading Attempts Using Poser software

Software = Poser Pro 2014 Game Development version.

Purpose = To devise an alternative technique to produce contemporary anime-style cel-shaded render, without using cel or toon shaders in Material Room.

Method = Informed Trial-and-error, applied to Material settings of Atmosphere, Render settings, Preview Display settings, and Light Settings.

Observations =

Manga 2-tone renders

It was relatively simple to obtain a black line on white background unshaded manga style render; this involved mostly working on settings for Atmosphere material and property settings for lighting. However, despite heeding conventional wisdom to increase displacement value to the highest level when all spots in the render no longer appear, these spots do not ever seem to disappear !! My temporary solution is: leave out any background environment props such as hemispheres or environment spheres or similer whatnot. This is because render setting for renders of black lines on white background, are not going to need IDL or raytracing, so no need to have light-emitters or bouncing rays.

Manga shaded grey-scale

With some adjustments to Lights and atmosphere, I could also achieve a grey-shaded look for the render, but this is a little harder to predict in the preview window. It is best to use SreeD and not OpenGL for preview display.

Anime-style art render

After much experimenting with the Material Settings for Atmosphere, and the Properties and Material Settings for one and then two lights, I managed to come up with a basic collection of settings to achieve an anime-style render, without having to apply toon or cel shaders to the figure in my scene. I used SydneyG2 as my experimental candidate. To achieve a manga or anime style of lines, the Head, Body and Lips need to belong to the same ToonID group; especially the lips, or else you cannot achieve that typical anime look. Unfortunately, the eyebrows are simply painted on the face texture, and this makes it difficult to define the brows with lines in the final render.

Blender buildings generated with BCGA and rendered in Poser

The BCGA plug-in worked in an earlier version of Blender3D, and could generate high-rise buildings, which I exported from Blender3D. I imported the buuilding geometries into Poser and adjsuted the shaders. My main purpose was to create night-time buidligns for use as background props in Poser, which was very rare back in those days when I did this project.

I should mention that more modern versions of Blender3D have other add-ons which can generate skyscrapers and/or cities, and those may be commercially available.
