This nylon-like tissue was made by the Artisans, and its recipe has been lost to history. It is an incredibly resistant material, having 70 times the tensile strength of silk (itself stronger than steel). Its hardness is slightly higher than that of corundum, which means it cannot be scratched by conventional knifes (or even hermetium knives). The compressive strength (which protects it from scissors) is also very high, and aluminum scissors would break before cutting through hylon. Hermetium scissors could cut through hylon, but the power necessary to do so is beyond that of most mortals.
Hylon is incredibly elastic, though it will rarely be actually stretched by most common sources of force. It is also fireproof.
