Placed in one of the most under-resourced areas of Mumbai, Subhankar began his Fellowship journey at Ja'Fari English High School, where he encountered students facing unimaginable adversity. Confronting issues such as drug abuse and violence, Subhankar found that conventional classroom management methods were often ineffective. However, he remained committed to helping his students succeed, taking a non-traditional approach to foster respect and structure within the classroom.
One of his most memorable students, Kasim, who often got into fights, eventually embraced Subhankar’s support and began focusing on his academics. Subhankar’s dedication to building relationships and addressing the social challenges his students faced reflects his unwavering belief in their potential, showing that even in the toughest environments, connection and empathy can create change.
