When Aakash Wadhwa first transitioned from teaching Grade 4 to a lively Grade 7 class of 100 boys, he felt overwhelmed by the daily discipline issues. Yet, instead of responding with stricter rules, he chose love and empathy, becoming a guiding example to his students. Over time, this heartfelt approach led him to create a project called SEVAAA, which integrated social studies, empathy, and language lessons to engage the students more meaningfully. Watching his students flourish into self-directed learners who even created educational videos on their own filled him with pride, reminding him of the power of empathy in transforming a classroom.
Outside his classroom, Aakash’s passion for education extended to his school’s teachers and local tutors, encouraging them to apply for the fellowship. Though none of them succeeded, his influence didn’t go unnoticed; he planted the seeds of possibility within his community. Today, his former students embrace the confidence he helped them build, carrying forward his legacy of creativity, compassion, and love for learning.
