Hiloni’s Teach For India journey involved transforming a notorious classroom with 65 struggling students in grades 5 and 6 in Malwani, Mumbai. Despite overwhelming behavioral challenges and below-grade-level skills, Hiloni believed in her students’ potential. After a week of absence due to illness, she found her class engaged and focused during a recorded lesson, a pivotal moment that showed her the power of consistency and love in creating trust and discipline.

One particularly inspiring story involves a former student, Arif Sheikh, who reconnected with her years later to share that he was pursuing an MBBS degree. Hiloni’s lasting impact reflects her dedication to building trust and resilience in students, showing that with patience, empathy, and belief, even the toughest classrooms can be transformed into spaces for growth and aspiration.
