Shalom’s teaching journey in Hyderabad’s Old City taught him that love often means embracing difficult students. Among his students was Afshan, who initially challenged his authority but softened after a personal visit from Shalom and his co-fellow. Showing Afshan’s family her academic achievements helped rebuild her confidence and marked a turning point in her attitude, as she worked hard to live up to her potential.

After the Fellowship, Shalom felt compelled to take on another challenging role, moving to one of India’s remotest regions to work on education. His journey emphasizes that sometimes, leading with love means going beyond the comfort zone, choosing to serve even when the path is difficult.
