Shimona’s background in sociology made her acutely aware of social inequalities, inspiring her to pursue a Fellowship in Mumbai’s low-development index neighborhood of Govandi. In her second year, she faced unexpected challenges as her adolescent students began acting out in ways that tested her patience and resolve. Overwhelmed, she nearly quit, but instead found renewed strength by focusing on building authentic connections with her students.
Her efforts paid off as students began opening up, displaying growth both academically and personally. Shimona’s journey shows how resilience and compassion can transform difficult circumstances into meaningful connections, reaffirming her commitment to making a difference through education.
