Da Lines of Leaves

Pencil, colored pencil, bristol paper

12" x 9"

This drawing is the outline of some leaves that I found outside, but instead of adding details inside of the leaves I focused on the negative space around and between the leaves. This project relates to my life because sometimes I forget to focus on the smaller/unnoticed things and this piece is made for you to focus on the negative space which in this case is the smaller/unnoticed thing.

I picked up a few leaves from outside then spread them out randomly on a piece of paper making sure I had five different negative spaces. Then on a separate piece of bristol paper I drew the outline of the leaves with no detail of the inside of them. Then I added some shading using a darker pencil and used colored pencil to add some color to the background.

All I did to create this was look at my paper of leaves and draw the outline as close as I could to the actual leaves. Then I went in with a darker pencil and outlined it one more time and added some shading. This is also how my piece evolved. If I were to add more things to this I would add more to this drawing I would probably add more detail to the background/negative space, to make it pop more.
