Sgraffito Tile

In these pieces I was trying to figure out what the shape of the tile looked like to me. Which is why for my first design I chose a snowman. Unfortunately this tile broke so I had to start a different one last minute.

I made my first sketches with drawing paper and a pencil along with scratch board using the red handled tool the most. Then once I moved on the actual clay tile I switched to a wooden handled pointier knife to get better details.

As I said before I tried to see what the shape of the tile told me which had a lot to do with the process of my work. The second tile isn't as detailed and has complex as I wanted it to be. Due to the break of my first one, I made the design to my second one quickly to get it done for the due date and so it could be glazed and fired by the next class.
