Da Cubed Flower

Black paper, colored pastels, white paint marker.

9" x 12"

For my work I used Van Gogh's love of sunflowers and Picasso's love of cubism and color to inspire my art. I chose this because I love color and art thats more on the abstract side of art even though this isn't completely abstract. I also liked it because it gave me a lot of freedom and choices of what to do with these three things from those two artists.

I used black paper and sketched the flower but added some angles and lines to break then flower up and move around the pieces a little bit too. I used colored pastels to color the petals and I used a white paint marker to go over the square lines.

The process I used to make this is I would make the lines first and draw the flower around the lines but on the other side of the line I would move it so the lines of the petal wouldn't match up on either side of the line/corner. then I colored each part of all the petals different to make it pop more and used the white paint marker to outline the lines after I added a second cote to the pastel. Then after that I accidentally made some of the splatter pattern, then decided it looked cool so I added more. My project evolved from being not so bright because I wasn't expecting to add more than one layer of pastel, but I'm glad I did. When I was sketching it out on a different piece of paper I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing so I just drew a bunch of lines over a flower and I used that to make this as well as adding more dimension and details. If I were to add more to this I would maybe add another flower in one of the top corners.
