Encoustic Wax, Wood
The main idea that guided this was the holiday or Hannukkah. When I think of hannukkah i think of light and family. so i also wnated to use something to represent fire because of the flames on the menorah.
I made this using Encaustic Wax on a wooden block. I wanted to use wax to represent the candles adn fire on the menorah. I used a heat gun to make the designs and move the wax around. I also used the heat gun to warm up a sculpting too, to carve the family in the middle.
Some processes I went through to make this was first just experimenting with the wax on other pieces of wood. I also had to move the colors in a few different orders to make the fire look more realistic. I printed out a picture of a family and traced it in the middle.
