Artist Statement

First I realized that my collage was too intricate to replicate. So I decided to take cool aspects from the piece to redo in the hand drawn version. Then I found some old pens and colored pencils to draw my collage. After finding something to draw with I drew everything I wanted in my replication piece. Finally I cut out the square of my finished product.

An element of design I had in mind while replicating my collage was balance. I knew I had to have balance in the drawing or it wouldn't look like the collage. So I worked hard to have all aspects the same or similar sizes as how they were on the collage.

A struggle I had with this piece was drawing the clouds, mountains and surfer dude. I didn't know we would be drawing our collage so I picked things I thought would be cool not things that made sense to draw. I don't really see this piece as representing me but I do like to surf and I like mountains.
