84 Colors Project

Color Grid

Artist Statement

This was the first project where we used acrylic paint so we started off small. We created a 2 color, color grid with 6 tints and 4 shades, 1 primary color and 1 secondary color. Then we moved up to a much bigger paper. We were instructed to use the 3 primary colors, 3 secondary colors and 6 tertiary colors. Than for each color we needed 3 tints and 3 shades for each color. Finally we created a design that would use all 84 colors. I decided to draw nautical flags, a Bluefin Tuna, Mahi Mahi and an anchor.

I worked hard to use space and color in this piece. 84 colors are a lot of different colors to fit in one painting. So this was a struggle for me to use the space and colors equally. Planning this piece was a real struggle for me because I didn't really plan it. I just had an idea in my head and hoped I used enough colors.

This piece represents me in that these are some fish I would like to catch someday. The Bluefin and Mahi Mahi are my favourite fish. A challenge I had in this using all 84 colors and I ended up using all of Green, Blue-Green and Yellow-Green in the Mahi.
