Extended Blind Contour

Artist Statement

The Women and the Plants

felt pen, water color, graphite

6.5" x 7.5"

For this project we were instructed to create at least 3 blind contour sketches of a subject, I chose to keep going and ended up drawing four more, because I kinda enjoyed the process. Once we had our sketches we were instructed to turn it into art. I ended up adding plants and funky vases to the negative space around my sketches. Then I used water color to color in the sketches as well as the plants. I wanted a diversity of different colored people, but not exclusively normal colors either.

I used felt pen and water color on top of some kind of rigid and smooth paper to create these projects. Then women are obviously blind contours and I had sketched out some ideas for the plants in my sketch book.

I honestly feel like I got worse at both painting the people and drawing blind contours the longer I went. However I also was trying to capture more detail each time I drew one. I didn't know how I was going to use the negative space at first and then I looked through my sketchbook and found some ideas for plant vases.
